With generous support from Cultural Survival and Musack, the Sacred Defense Fund organized its first-ever Indigenous Media Camp during the 103rd annual Santa Fe Indian Market. Hosted annually each August, the Santa Fe Indian Market is the largest gathering of Indigenous creatives in North America, bringing hundreds of thousands of people to experience Indigenous culture, art and community.

Our first cohort facilitated Indigenous youth from the Pine Ridge and Standing Rock communities with leaders in music, media, photography and fashion design. Our initial programing event focused on building community and instilling that storytelling has always been an Indigenous expression of culture. Our hands-on media camp teaches people, with little experience, a variety of skills including the use of equipment and software, video production, storytelling, editing, and the business of media. At our core, we focus on advocacy, while using media as a tool for social change and self-expression, and our consultants have similar visions and branding—all advocating for Indigenous representation in media.
We curate facilitators who are doing the work on the frontlines, not just on social media, and are leaders in their industries with years of experience. For more information on our Indigenous Media Camp, please contact darren@sacreddefense.org
